PSHF Latest Newsletter

The Helen Flavel Foundation inc Australia (HFF) was formed in March 2004, to assist the Balinese people to manage and control their own charity. Their aim was to help the very needy children and families in North Bali and give them a better life.
This aim has now been realised and it's with great pleasure that the HFF has handed-over the entire control to Peduli Sesama Helen Flavel (PSHF) on the 3rd January 2012.
Helen Flavel has now retired and is in no way involved in any part of PSHF. Helen's name has been used to show the respect she has gained for her tireless efforts to improve the lives of the many Balinese people living in extreme poverty.

Please bookmark the new PSHF Website address and remove the bookmark for HFF.

Welcome to Peduli Sesama Helen Flavel

In March 2004, Peduli Sesama Helen Flavel (PSHF) was formed in Bali to focus on giving the children from the poorest families the opportunity to attend school.  We have been able to provide over 700 sponsorships to students since the HFF and PSHF first began. The sponsorships concentrate on children from the very poorest regions where parents toil and struggle just to put rice and vegetables on the table each day.

In general, we take a holistic view and we have discovered, usually after the first 12 months of helping a child, there is a need to help the entire family with housing, bedding, furniture, medical support and other basic needs. We have also built or renovated 738 modest homes since 2004. Ultimately, we believe that education is a gift that will last the children a lifetime and provide a solid foundation to help them throughout their lives. To learn more about us and our work, please visit the other sections of our website and visit our Gallery to see images of some of our past accomplishments. Donations can also be made on our site, or if you prefer by direct deposit or by post.

Bali Street Dogs

Bali Dogs ...... homeless, hungry and hurt are left to fend for themselves and roam freely on the streets and beaches, around restaurants and in tourist areas. Their large numbers and extremely bad living conditions can create unpleasant environments for everyone, especially the dogs. These beautiful dogs are suffering.
We would like to thank the Bali Street Dog Fund Australia for the $3,000 that they have donated to us each year since 2006 to help us pay for our teacher’s wages. Due to the additional strain that the Rabies virus in Bali has put on the Bali Street Dog Fund cash flow, we will now receive $2000 per year as from 2011.

Education for the World

Education for the World, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization based in California, which provides college scholarship money for women around the world, especially those with financial or other life challenges. Our current focus is in Bali, Indonesia. In 2006, the original concept for Education for the World was formulated. While vacationing in Bali that year, the founder, Michael Ballinger, decided to use his own money to enroll the first two students.
By 2007, Education for the World was officially incorporated and received tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. To this point, the organization has sponsored nine college students. Full sponsorship includes paying for tuition, for school supplies, such as a laptop, and providing a small monthly stipend, which allows students to spend more time studying, instead of working.
We believe that education is the gateway to wider opportunities and also to a higher standard of living. It is our hope that the initial effort becomes a self-sustaining process in which those helped go on to help others--making the world a better place, one student at a time.
